Meet René Delane, Founder and CEO of Women Who Dare LLC

I am René Delane, founder and CEO of Women Who Dare LLC.  Serving on past Visionary Committees, helping secure an “Oprah moment” giveaway with Southwest Airlines, acting as an ambassador for NAWBO Columbus through social media and contributing an article for a diversity panel at the national level have all been powerful ways to honor the mission of NAWBO.

Tell us about your business.

Women Who Dare delivers transformative Inclusion Consulting, Speaking and Coaching. We stand for gender balance and inclusive leadership by amplifying the voices and contributions of minority women that are often underrepresented in positions of leadership. We inspire, educate and advocate for women to be strong leaders, powerful influencers and confident communicators. We partner with men who are allies because our communities, the nation and world need all voices to create a future that serves all.

What inspired you to get into your business?

Twenty-five years spent as one of the first physician assistants in surgery, patient education and care along with a childhood of economic poverty but rich in values and experiences were all the puzzle pieces that fit together to form Women Who Dare.

What are your three best practices or best tips that every NAWBO member needs to hear?

  1. “Get off your ask” by asking for help when you are stuck, when you want to meet someone you respect and admire, and especially when you don’t understand a request, business directive or someone’s comments clearly. Communicating with clarity is your ticket to success.
  2. Develop a positive outlook, mentality and attitude by using simple habits born of self-affirming steps; being kind to your mind, and placing faith in your smarts and your heart.
  3. You are the gatekeeper for your mind. Challenge the cultural messages for women from cradle to career and beyond to be polite, agreeable, humble to a fault. It’s embedded in cultures (except Wonder Woman’s) and becomes the norm.

What does your future look like?

I’m excited to publish my first book, “Get Off Your Ask” in early 2018 and also share the stories through interviews/videos behind statues such as “Fearless Girl” and many others that honor the achievements of women around the world.

What do you do in your free time?

I love to hike with my husband, daughters, and four-year old grandson.  The child-like love of nature as seen through the eyes of a child has never left me.  Libraries, museums, ethnic restaurants, books and meeting diverse people restore my faith in the basic goodness of humankind.
