BWC Premium Payments Set to Change to Prospective Payments in July Sign-up for programs to save on BWC costs by May 29, 2015

The Bureau of Workers’ Compensation has changed the way it will collect premium payments for private employers beginning July 1, 2015.

Private employers will begin paying premium payments prospectively. Currently, your premium invoice is sent in January which includes the previous six months of insurance coverage. The good news is that the Bureau has done extremely well with their investments and they are paying your first prospective payment in 2015. You will still receive your usual invoice in 2015 for the last six months of 2014 , but according to the BWC, you will not have a double payment. Your next invoice will be sent at the end of August 2015 and it will be to pay for the months of September and October. Going forward, you will receive bimonthly invoices, however, you will have the opportunity to choose whether you would like to remain on the bimonthly payment schedule or choose monthly, quarterly or annual payments.

In late May, BWC will mail all private employers a notice of estimated annual premium based on your reported payroll for July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014. This is not a bill, but you should review the notice for accuracy.

As part of the prospective billing implementation, enrollment is currently underway for private employers to sign up for several of the Destination: Excellence programs designed to help businesses improve workplace safety, enhance injured worker care and save money on workers’ compensation costs.

Private employers can sign-up with BWC between now and May 29, 2015. Click here to view the Destination: Excellence brochure which includes more details about the programs and enrollment deadlines.
