There are literally dozens of certification options for Women Owned Business Enterprises. The key is to success is choosing the best certification (s) for your market. This program explores different certifications including WBENC, WBE, DBE and EDGE to list a few. Eligibility requirements are outlined and the benefits to each certification are presented. Attendees will be provided with helpful handouts including Local Certification Agencies, Type of Certification, Certification Contact, and qualification requirements.

Darraugh Clay Butler, Program Director, Ohio River Valley Women’s Business Council has been involved in small business development and supplier diversity programs for over twenty years.
Ms. Butler began her career in 1983 as Personnel Director, University Health Services at The Ohio State University where she served until 1989. She then transferred and assumed the role of Manager of Minority Business Development, Ohio State Purchasing. In 1993 she relocated from Columbus to Cincinnati to become the Supplier Diversity Program Administrator for Federated Department Stores, Inc. As the initial incumbent she established their supplier diversity program for its Corporate Headquarters and nine store divisions. From 1996 to 1998 she served as President/CEO of the South Central Ohio Minority Supplier Development Council. In 1998 she started D. Butler Management Consulting where she continues to serve as a Business Management Consultant specializing in supplier diversity and economic inclusion.
Darraugh has served on many committees and boards that focus on supplier diversity and minority business development. She is a recipient of many awards and many prominent accomplishments. Her consulting firm was the SBE consultant on both the Great American Ballpark and the Duke Energy Center construction projects and exceeded the goals for SBE economic inclusion. Her notable achievements include: Fifth Third Bank “Contribution to Supplier Diversity Award”, Cincinnati USA Supplier Diversity Circle of Excellence, “Trailblazing Organization: Award and South Central Ohio Minority Business Council, “MBE Supplier of the Year”, 2001. She is a two time recipient of the Minority Business News USA “Women Who Mean Business” Award.
When not working or serving her community, she spends time with her family, Charles, John, Mary and Damoni as well as enjoying time with her six grandchildren.

Tara Harkness is the Founder and CEO of Link to Success, LLC, a Columbus-based consulting firm managing strategic partners. Ms. Harkness is a seasoned business development professional who specializes in consulting with minority and women owned business with meeting growth objectives. Ms. Harkness brings to her clients strength in understanding how to structure win-win strategic partnerships and a large portfolio of contacts in government, corporations and minority and women owned businesses.

As Acting President for the SE Region Women Business Enterprise National Council organization, she was charged with coordination of certification. Further,
Ms. Harkness experience positioned her to communicate federal, state and local certification detail to constituents while at the same time facilitating relationships with local, county and federal economic development agencies.

Tara’s business development skills were honed with array of companies over the years. She uniquely embraces and understands the importance of cultivating long term relationships to achieve client goals. Ms. Harkness positions herself with corporations and small business owners as an on-going presence that continuously monitors outcomes and works as a liaison between corporate and minority and woman business owners to assure that the relationship meets expectations and achieves the mutual goals between her clients.

Ms. Harkness brings to her clients strong presentation, negotiation, communication and leadership skills - all direct at assisting her clients with achieving successful outcomes.
